Format

Rinex exchange format was developed by W Gurtner and G Mader in the late 80's to overcome the proprietary formats used by each hardware manufacturer. To accommodate developments in satellite positioning systems, different versions of the Rinex format have been produced. Here are the versions used by REGINA :

RINEX 2.11

The rinex version 2.11 is the most commonly used Rinex in version 2 which allows to store pseudorange carrier-phase and Doppler measurements from GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and also augmentation systems like EGNOS and WAAS in the same file. This format is composed of 3 different ASCII files (observation files, navigation files per constellation, meteorological files which are not provided by REGINA mission center).
Considered as the standard for the exchange of GNSS data in the RINEX 2 format.

RINEX 3.03

With the upcoming GALILEO european navigation satellite system and the enhanced GPS with new frequencies and observations types, a new standard which include all these changes was needed in order to have a more flexible and more detailed definition of the observation codes. The significant change of the data record structure led to a new RINEX version 3. The different subversions of the Rinex 3 allowed to support QZSS, IRNSS and implement some evolution of BEIDOU, GLONASS and identified Rinex format issues.
This format Rinex 3.03 is the most commonly used for REGINA and is composed of 3 different ASCII files (observation files, mixed navigation files or per constellation, meteorological files which are not provided by REGINA mission center).

RINEX 3.04

This format integrates the evolutions of GPS, GALILEO and BEIDOU signals. This format is available on some stations and will be available soon on all REGINA stations.

RINEX B

RINEX-type Broadcast Data Files for GEO Satellites.
This format is used to exchange the binary data broadcast by Space-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) like EGNOS, WAAS, MSAS. This receiver independent exchange format is similar to the RINEX format widely used for the exchange of geodetic GNSS tracking data.
